- Cream Tea included after your tour
Come with us as we walk in the footsteps of Nurse Trixie Franklin, Sister Julienne and Dr Turner and explore the historic Chatham Dockyard, the location for so many scenes from the hit TV series.
Day One - Windsor
Departing South Wales we head to Windsor. Set alongside the River Thames this most regal of towns is a beautiful place to visit all year round. Take a walk along the river, head out on a boat or stroll over the bridge to Eton and see the famous college. The town itself is charming too, with exclusive undercover shops at the old station concourse to the main street, all watched over by the imposing Windsor Castle.
At the end of the afternoon we head to the Holiday Inn London Heathrow Bath Road for your one night stay with an evening meal & breakfast included.
A note about your included evening meal: For convenience and value, your break includes a simple evening meal as part of your hotel stay. The hotel's evening meal is designed to cater for a larger group of people together at the same time, so you may find that the choices are more basic and limited.
We recognise that it may not always meet the expectations of those that would prefer a superior dining experience from an extensive menu, and we recommend that you bear this in mind when booking this break. Most hotels have alternative options via a bar menu or room service menu to purchase at your own expense, should the inclusive evening meal not meet your own personal preference
Day Two - Chatham Historic Dockyard with Call the Midwife Tour & Cream Tea
It's time for the tour! Just over an hour's drive from our hotel is the historic Chatham Dockyard, home to those cobbled streets where Nurse Noakes learnt to ride her bike, along with buildings and props from the show itself at the Call the Midwife exhibition. On arrival you'll have chance to explore the Dockyard before your Call the Midwife Official Location tour.
During your tour you'll walk in the footsteps of Nurse Trixie Franklin, Sister Julienne and Dr Turner and explore where the real drama happens. The walking tour is led by your very own costumed midwife. Along the tour you’ll recognise the cobbled streets and buildings of ‘Poplar’ plus iconic locations such as the Grosvenor Hotel and ‘Chummy’s Hill’, where Nurse Noakes famously learnt to ride her bike. With a picture book to help trigger your memories, you’ll see just how Neal Street Productions transform 400 year old Chatham dockyard into to East London. The tour culminates with the exclusive Call the Midwife exhibition containing set, props and costumes.
Please be aware: This is a walking tour with some uneven surfaces, please ensure you wear comfortable foot wear. It is wheelchair friendly but please advise us in advance if you have any mobility issues and you will be accommodated as best we can.
Even if you aren't a fan of the series, Chatham has plenty to offer. From a cold war submarine to WW2 destroyer and the RNLI historic collection.
After your Call the Midwife tour a Cream Tea is included for you to enjoy before we head home to Wales later in the afternoon.
Returning home late evening.
