We leave South Wales, cross over the Severn and head into the West Country, taking a break along the way before arriving at Riviera Hotel in Torbay for 4 nights dinner bed and breakfast.
This basic seaside hotel boasts great entertainment in it’s own cabaret club, indoor swimming pool along with a buffet style breakfast and evening meal with several choices each night.
Day Two – Dartmouth and Brixham
Leaving the hotel we head to the west bank of the river Dart for our first stop of the day .
This picturesque Devon town boasts many independent shops, bars, coffee shops and restaurants, but if you want to see and learn about the Dart and it’s surroundings, then hop aboard for a river cruise*. With sights such as the Britannia Naval Collage, the quaint village of Dittisham and Agatha Christie’s Estate of Greenway, along with live commentary, it’s a lovely way to start your day.
Later that day, we take the link ferry over the River Dart and head on to Brixham.
This seaside resort is one of the three main towns that make up Torbay. Still a thriving fishing port , you can relax and watch the ships roll in take a look at the impressive replica of the Golden Hind or grab some fish and chips on the harbour.
Day Three – Plymouth and Dartmoor
After breakfast we head out for a full day ,as we take you to the historic Barbican area of Plymouth. The Aquarium, Plymouth Gin distillery, The Hoe and lighthouse. There’s lots to see, including Cornwall, just across the River Tamar.
From here we head up on to Dartmoor. This beautifully bleak National Park has been been a place of myths legends, along with being the perfect location set for many films and television programmes, with War Horse and Sherlock amongst them.
As we reach Princetown we take the opportunity for a break. Indulge in a traditional cream tea at the Old Police Station or have a wander through this pretty village. From here we take the opportunity for one more breathtaking view of the Moors before making our way back to our hotel.
Day Four – Dawlish and Teignmouth
This morning we take you to the seaside town of Dawlish, the home of the Black Swan. Relax and watch the birds themselves, shop at the many arcades or watch the trains go by overhead… as the main line passes over the beach.
From here it’s a short drive to Teignmouth. This coastal town, lined with Georgian architecture is known for it’s local fresh food and is a great for a spot early lunch or a cream tea before we head back.
