27th – 30th April 2018

It’s springtime in Scotland and we’re here to take you to the borders for a long weekend break.

Day One
Departing South Wales we head North and on to the excellent Gretna Hall Hotel in the world famous Gretna Green, for 3 nights dinner , bed and Scottish breakfast.
The hotel combines the old and the new with the original manor house dating from 1710 and the modern 150 room hotel and restaurant nestled alongside.

As you may have guessed this is the very same Gretna that’s famed for the runaway marriages, and with the blacksmiths shop just behind the hotel, you’ll almost certainly catch some couples tying the knot!
Gretna village is a short walk away and with a couple of local pubs nearby, you should be able to unwind with a dram or two.

Day Two  –  Edinburgh
Two hours north of Gretna is the capital city of Edinburgh.  Dropping you in the heart of the city you can explore this fascinating mix of Medieval and Georgian architecture, all in the shadow of the imposing castle.
The castle itself is open to the public and connected to Holyrood house via the Royal mile . Here you’ll find all manner of local produce, gift shops, whisky, shortbread , fudge…and lots more beside.

You can even take a ghost walk beneath the city.. learn of it’s gory past and listen to scary tales… if you dare!!!!!

Day Three  –  The Borders
Today it’s a leisurely start, taking you through the Tweed mill areas of Hawick before visiting the historic sights of Melrose and Jedburgh.  We’ll take a coffee stop at Melrose where you can see the Abbey ruins and then back to Jedburgh, which was once home of Mary Queen of Scots.

Day Four
Time to head home, taking a stop or two along the way to arrive back that evening.
