Scarborough is thought to be the original seaside resort, with bathing in the North Sea promoted back as far as the 1660s!
These days you don't have to take a dip to enjoy this incredible coastline. With dramatic cliff top views, walks along the promenade, a bustling town centre and a dash of culture with museums, the theatre and more.. it's a traditional holiday resort that's as fabulous today as it's always been.
Day One
Departing South Wales we head to the North East Coast and on to the Esplanade Hotel in Scarborough. Overlooking the sweeping sands of the South Bay, this traditional seafront hotel is the ideal spot to take in the true beauty of this North Yorkshire resort.
Day Two – Whitby and Pickering
Today we head to the North east coast of Yorkshire and on to the seaside town of Whitby. Steeped in history Whitby is known for its quirky narrow streets and bustling harbour overlooked by the striking ruins of Whitby Abbey. Combined with excellent fish and chips, it’s a perfect stop off.
After lunch we'll make our way to Whitby's Railway Station to board for a heritage train journey on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. This scenic route will take us through the stops at Grosmont & Goathland, all the way to the market town of Pickering, where we'll alight and you'll have some time here to explore before meeting the coach to return to Scarborough.
Day Three - Free in Scarborough
Day Four - York
Today we head to the fabulous city of York. Here you'll find the glorious York Minster, the largest Gothic cathedral in Europe, the narrow cobbled streets of the ‘Shambles’ where the buildings date back to medieval times, and maybe squeeze in a visit to the National Railway Museum. In fact.. there's so much to this incredible city.. you might want to come back for more!
Day Five
Time to say goodbye to the North Yorkshire Coast and head back to South Wales. Arriving home late evening.
