Portugal's Cities & The Silver Coast

Climb aboard for a spectacular journey to the stunning Portuguese Coast and Douro Valley, with guided city excursions, a Douro Cruise, Port Wine tasting and so much more all included. 

Day One
Departing South Wales in the early hours of the morning, we head to the south West of England and on to Plymouth to board the Pont Aven, Brittany Ferries flagship cruise ferry which will take us to Santander in Northern Spain. The ferry departs from Plymouth at lunchtime, and we'll be cruising through the night, arriving in Santander late the following morning.

On board your Brittany Ferries cruise ferry you can enjoy a great choice of dining - from French and international cuisine to family favourites - a drink at the bar, a visit to the cinema, or even a spot of Duty-free shopping; many sailings also offer live entertainment. And when you're ready to put your feet up, simply relax in the comfort of your own en suite cabin.

Meals and drinks on the ferry are NOT included within your holiday price.

Cabins Options  Standard cabins are two berth inside cabins with one lower & one upper bunk bed; a supplement will apply if you require a four berth inside* cabin or outside* cabin, ensuring that two people sharing a cabin can both sleep in a lower bunk. . *Inside cabins do not have a window, out side cabins have a window.

Day Two - Burgos
On arrival in Santander, we head to our overnight stop at the Hotel Corona de Castilla in Burgos, Northern Spain. Our stay here includes an evening meal and breakfast the following morning.

Day Three - Praia Da Vieira
Today we make our way through mid West Spain, before crossing the Portuguese border and on to Praia da Vieira and our base for the next five nights, the Hotel Cristal Vieira Praia.

Located just a short walk from both the beach and town centre, the Hotel Cristal includes lounge, bar and it's own spa area along with a terrace overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Your stay here includes a hot and cold buffet breakfast each morning, and a buffet style three course meal each evening.

Day Four - Lisbon
The Portuguese capital city is one of the most historic in Europe, with it's picturesque panorama of ancient ruins, white domed cathedrals and cobbled alleyways. The Alfama District dates back to the 5th century and is still a true glimpse the more traditional side of the city. Once an upper class area until earthquakes brought down the mansions, it's now very much a working class area with residents trading from their doorstep. Another must see is the stunning and imposing Jeronimos Monastery, entry fees are included to this UNESCO World Heritage Site as is lunch in the city too.

Day Five - Coimbra
Today is a shorter drive inland to the medieval city of Coimbra. Situated on the banks of the River Mondego, the city was once Portugal's medieval capital and is home to the oldest university in the country. Your entry fee is included as we explore the university itself, before taking lunch then having free time to explore. Coimbra's historic centre is incredibly atmospheric, with its dark cobbled lanes and Romanesque cathedral. You may just hear the sounds the odd deep voiced fado singer or guitarra player reverberating of the old stone walls.

Day Six - Porto
Portugal's second city is famed with giving the country its name, and the of course port wine! From the ancent Porto Cathedral  (entry included) to the the ultra modern Casa da Música, the city has it all. Included in your day is lunch, a short cruise on the Rio Douro and a visit to a port wine cellar complete with a tasting session.

Day Seven - Free at Resort 
Relax and unwind, maybe make use of the hotel’s facilities or take a stroll along the along the beach. Today you will have the opportunity to enjoy time at leisure in Praia Da Vieira

Day Eight - Palencia
It's time to bid farewell to the Portuguese coast and head back across the Spanish border to Palencia for our overnight stop with evening meal and breakfast included at the Hotel Rey Sancho.

Day Nine - Santander
We head North and back to the ferry port of Santander. Here you'll have time to grab a spot of lunch or take a stroll before boarding your afternoon ferry for your overnight crossing. Cabins types as booked are included for your crossing, however the holiday package does not include any meals or drinks on the ferry crossing.

Day Ten
Arriving in Plymouth at lunchtime, we make our way from the South West of England before arriving home in Wales later that day.
